Leavenworth, KS-After 19 years of leading a creative movement to connect Catholic Sisters with the online community, A Nun’s Life Ministry, begins a new chapter with Global Sisters Report (GSR), which is a project of the non-profit, National Catholic Reporter (NCR). A Nun’s Life is transferring ownership of its content to NCR by the end of January, and the ministry will cease to be an independent non-profit organization by the end of quarter one of 2025.

As a non-profit organization dependent on sponsorships, grants, and donations, in mid-2024, it became evident that sustaining adequate staffing to create new content was no longer financially viable. A Nun’s Life executive director Sister Rejane Cytacki and the Board of Directors had to make some hard decisions about the future of the ministry. “Even though we could no longer produce new content, our current content continues to be viewed at approximately 12,000 website visits per month and it is still one of the top websites listed when someone searches for “How to Become a Nun,” said Sister Rejane Cytacki. Julie Brown, board president said, “The board took our responsibility seriously in stewarding the personal stories of religious women who entrusted them to A Nun’s Life.”

After months of conversations and searching for the right place for A Nun’s Life content to live on, A Nun’s Life Board has designated the non-profit, National Catholic Reporter (NCR), as the organization to house A Nun’s Life content for the future. Since the inception of GSR in 2014, both organizations have been collaborating and sharing content. GSR will shepherd A Nun’s Life content, keep it in the public view, and potentially create new content thus continuing the mission of A Nun’s Life ministry of connecting people to Catholic Sisters.

A Nun’s Life Ministry currently consists of a website, several social media platforms, and two podcast series, In Good Faith and Ask Sister, that have over 2 million downloads. The website has valuable Search Engine Optimization (SEO) that has accrued over the years to over 5 million web views. In today’s world it is a reliable source to get accurate stories and information about Catholic sisters written by sisters. Sister Rejane said, “holding on to a website’s domain that has a valuable SEO is like holding on to a valuable piece of real estate. If the website domain were to be sold it could be filled with false stories about religious sisters and the new owners would take advantage of our huge SEO.”  We are confident that NCR will maintain the website domain and legacy of A Nun’s Life.”
